Conway's Law states that organizations which design systems are constrained to produce designs which are copies of the communication structures of these organizations. This is not merely an interesting observation but a fundamental constraint on system design. If you want to change your architecture, you may first need to change your organization. The social structure of the team building a system will be reflected in the structure of the system itself.
